Myofascial Release is a gentle yet powerful hands-on treatment that addresses tight connective tissue in the body. This connective tissue, or fascia, connects and embeds all muscles, bones, nerves, vessels, organs, and systems of the body, creating a three dimensional web. Healthy fascia provides both support and flexibility throughout the body. Restrictions in the fascia can pull at more than 2,000 pounds per square inch and put pressure on pain sensitive structures such as nerves and vessels. This can cause many symptoms including pain, limited range of motion, fatigue, and poor function in many body systems. Adding gentle yet sustained pressure into the fascia helps to release these restrictions and, in turn, improve posture, reduce pain, increase range of motion, and improve overall function. Catherine is a licensed occupational therapist and massage therapist specializing in pediatrics, as well as John F. Barnes Myofascial Release and CranioSacral Therapy. She is an Expert Level Myofascial Therapist under John F. Barnes and has been directly trained by him in his clinic. She has been practicing MFR since 2009. She is an Advanced Level Craniosacral Fascial Therapist and has been practicing this work since 2000. She has been directly trained by Dr. Barry Gillespie and has certifications in the Advanced Adult and Advanced Pediatric courses. She has also been very honored to help teach this work to other students, serving as an assistant for Dr. Gillepsie in the Adult Class and as his colleague in the Infant Classes. She has, furthermore, studied traditional CranioSacral Therapy through the Upledger Institute. She has been trained in Therapeutic Touch by Dr. Peggy Fuhs and has also served as an assistant teacher with her. Catherine feels so fortunate that she has known and used this powerful work for almost two decades with amazing results! She has worked with children as an occupational therapist since 2004. She completed two internships at The Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children, including time in the NICU, as well as inpatient and outpatient rehab. She is very passionate about combining her skills in OT with fascial work to maximize function for all children. She began her schooling as a pharmacy major and realized that she wanted to help people on a deeper level. While she realizes that there is a need for the medical model of healthcare, she is a firm believer in holistic care for chronic issues, especially those that can be relieved when the body is aligned and not restricted by fascia. Through her own journey towards well-being, she has learned a great deal about pain, dysfunction, and true healing. She is excited to share this knowledge and the insights she has gained in order to make the path easier for others!
